Benson Chan is a co-founder and Senior Partner at Strategy of Things. He has over 25+ years of scaling innovative businesses and technologies for Fortune 500 and start-up companies. Benson’s career spanned several innovation-led organizations - NASA, Hughes Electronics, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Cisco. Benson’s expertise include IoT, smart cities, engineering, innovation management, market development, and go-to-market.

Benson has worked with IoT for the past six years. His current work focuses on Smart Cities, Smart Buildings, and Industrial IoT. Prior to that, he spent three years in the smart home industry, where he served at Vice President of Business Development and Marketing at Pakedge, and the Senior Director of Product Management at Control4.

Benson is a recognized domain expert and thought leader in IoT, smart cities, innovation
management, cloud business models, marketing and go-to-market. He speaks and writes regularly on these topics, and is published in several major industry journals. He recently co-authored the Municipal IoT Network Blueprint as part of the GCTC Wireless Supercluster. Benson is an active member of the CompTIA IoT Industry Advisory Council and the NIST GCTC Wireless, Smart Buildings, a Smart Regions superclusters. He served as an industry mentor in the US Department of Energy Building Technology Office’s IMPEL program that paired industry with National Laboratories researchers to foster entrepreneurial thinking.

Benson holds a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from California Poly State University, a MS in Engineering from Purdue University and a MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles.
