Advances in sensing applications are experiencing a perfect storm. Economies of scale gained from mobile and fitness applications, machine learning algorithms, advances in flexible and nano materials and ever-improving power efficiency and integration are making many different sensing modalities possible. Getting to the next killer apps will require conversations among experts who are familiar with problems at hand, sensors that can observe aspects of the problem, data science that can turn sensor data into actionable information and a platform for open innovation and rapid prototyping. In this session, gain an understanding of the role of sensor electronics, industrial/mechanical design and algorithm in making sensor derived information reliable. This session includes case studies in novel optical sensing applications.
